Dera Ismail Khan is one of the major urban centres of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with a population of nine hundred thousand. In terms of population and civic facilities, it is a rapidly growing city. It is also the hub of economic activities and enjoys a central position in Gomal basin. This city commands a very important geographical position because it is at the crossroads of routes from Bannu to Dera Ghazi Khan and also from Waziristan to Punjab, across the Indus river. Government sponsored institutions could not meet the growing needs of the area. Qurtuba was the first institution to fill up this gap. Prof. Abdul Aziz Khan Niazi, an educationist with a long experience of teaching, responded to the occasion and accepted the challenge of providing quality education. Qurtuba School & College D.I.Khan was founded in 1996. With very humble beginning, it has now grown into one of the premier institutions of the Province. The institution is housed in a purpose-built owned premises spread out at 30 kanals of land on spacious Sheikh Yousaf Road, opposite Islamia High School, near city circular road, D.I.Khan, in a highly congenial academic environment
